Cousins Furniture is the largest independent family-run retailer in the Midlands and a long-standing customer of ours. They approached us looking for some wall mounted 3D halo illuminated logos and other more general signage for their newest showroom in Shrewsbury. The signage needed to be cost efficient and scalable so that it could easily be rolled out across other stores in the future.
Usually, we would use stainless steel for this type of signage which can be quite labour intensive and therefore expensive. However, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Cousins were keen to explore cheaper alternatives that would result in a similar finished product.
For the 3D Logo’s, we opted to manufacture using 25mm PVC Foam on a CNC router by routing out the rear of the letters to accommodate the LED’s and wiring. This way we could produce the letters from one solid piece of material with no fabrication required. We then sealed and sprayed the letters before mounting the LED lighting inside.
Using this method, we were able to provide Cousins with lightweight and fire-resistant illuminated signage that looked great and didn’t break the bank!
Another part of the brief was to produce ‘Timelines’ that show the history of Cousins as a company from its earliest beginnings until now. They too wanted these to be 3D to increase their impact and really stand out with the use of directional lighting, and to incorporate photos of staff and premises throughout the years.
In the interest of cost saving measures, we again used 25mm PVC foam, routed and sprayed, The LED’s were left out in favour of existing on-site directional lighting. We used standoff fixings to further project the timeline from the wall and give it a ‘floating’ effect. The Photos were printed onto black acrylic and installed next to explanatory vinyl statements.
